Prepare for the Job Fair

  • Make sure your device is ready. Ensure your web cam and mic work with Chrome browser. Try a 3rd party app like: Online Mic and Web Cam Test

  •  Arrange a quiet, distraction-free environment, with good lighting, to best present the candidate, YOU.

  • Review the companies participating in the career fair. Each company has its own “Visit <company name> Portal.” Take time to learn about the company, open positions, culture, benefits, and more.

  • Familiarize yourself with the actions available to you on each company’s portal. Before the job fair, you are able to view job opportunities. On the job fair date, you will connect the recruiters by selecting “Connect to Recruiters.”

  • Have your resume polished, prepared, and ready to upload in the chat area when meeting with a recruiter.

  • Be prepared to answer who you are and why you want to work for that particular company. Prepare and rehearse an “elevator pitch.” An elevator pitch is a short summary of the “best” of you, and takes about 30 to 60 seconds or around 75 words.

  • Recruiter meeting time is limited to five (5) minutes. Be prepared, you may be disconnected without warning.

Keep in mind this is only a demonstration. On the day of the job fair, you will visit employer portals and click on "connect with recruiters" buttons to interact with recruiters.

After a welcome message, you will need to click the keypad to icon to show the keypad and the menu icon to show the drop-down menu.

Press 1 to Speak to a Recruiter

You will wait for the next available recruiter.

  • View how many job seekers are ahead of you in line in the message area
  • You can click SHOW DICTATION to view live transcription.

Press 2 to Request an ASL Interpreter

You will wait for the next available recruiter.

  • View how many job seekers are ahead of your in line.
  • You can click SHOW DICTATION to view live transcription.
  • The recruiter will request the ASL Interpreter after they meet you. You can use text messaging with the recruiter if there is a delay.

Press 3 to Leave a Video Message*

If you can't wait to speak with a recruiter, you can leave a video message. (You will not be recorded during the demonstration.)

  • You will have 3 minutes to leave a video message.
  • You choose when to begin recording.
  • Please provide your name so that the recruiter can locate your resume.
  • ASL videos are transcribed.

Press 4 to Pause and Adjust Settings.

You can use this time to become familiar with the job fair platform features and practice turning features on and off. You can change the text messaging and transcription text size and color by clicking SETTINGS in the menu.

Disconnect

When you are finished speaking with the recruiter, you can click DISCONNECT in the menu or you can close the window.

If you want to speak with a different employer you will need to return the job fair page.

How to Attend the ABILITY Job Fair

If you are 18 or older, have a disability and are looking for employment for yourself*, follow these steps.

Follow these steps to attend the job fair.

Step 1. Before the job fair date: Register

Click the following link to complete registration: REGISTER HERE

Step 2. Before the Job Fair: Complete your profile and upload your resume

After registering, complete your job seeker profile located in your account. Upload your resume. Recruiters will be searching job seeker profiles before, during, and after the job fair. This is why it is recommended to register well before the job fair opens.

Step 3. Before the Job Fair: Review Employers on the Job Fair Welcome Page

  • Each company has its own “Visit <company name> Portal.” Take time to learn about the company, open positions, culture, and benefits. Be sure you are aware of their open positions.

  • Familiarize yourself with the actions available to you on each company’s portal. Before the job fair, you are able to view job opportunities. On the job fair date, you will connect the recruiters by selecting “Connect with Recruiters.”

Step 4. On the day of the job fair

  • Login to your ABILITY Job Fair account.
  • Select your desired employers and select “Connect with Recruiters”
  • You will enter a queue to speak with a recruiter.

Be yourself, relax and enjoy meeting these recruiters.
